Facial Vitiligo Area Scoring Index

Physician-Reported Clinical Assessment

A focused vitiligo severity measure restricted to the face, which accounts for approximately 3% of total body surface area. F-VASI is particularly important because facial vitiligo has the greatest impact on quality of life.

About the F-VASI

Clinical Background

F-VASI uses the same calculation method as the total body VASI but is restricted to the face, which accounts for approximately 3% of total body surface area (approximately 3 hand units maximum). The score is calculated as: Hand Units of facial vitiligo involvement multiplied by the Residual Depigmentation grade.

F-VASI is particularly important because facial vitiligo has the greatest impact on quality of life. Psychometric evaluation from the TRuE-V studies confirmed excellent test-retest reliability (ICC: 0.943). A 75% or greater improvement in F-VASI is considered treatment success by most patients and dermatologists.
